Dissertation Update
I won’t be graduating this May. That’s the short of it. The long of it is that I will probably graduate in August and that I may even be a “doctor” before May—but not in enough time to walk in the ceremony. I do not know when my defense will be, though the committee is aiming for April right now. There’s more to the long of it: as you might guess, delays don’t happen for no reason. Suffice it to say that the committee needs more time to evaluate my work. I don’t mind adding that they found...
ClosedRange
I promised I would give an update on how my OpenRange experiment went. It was great; I really loved the idea. A cell-phone style Internet connection and wi-fi in one simple device. The customer service reps were friendly and helpful; the box came and everything worked as promised. But when I called BellSouth to let them know I was canceling my DSL service, they transferred me to the hated Retention Department. Who knew what schemes they would employ, what guilt they would induce, to get me to...
BibleWorks and WORDsearch vs. Logos 4
I am the holder of a sacred trust. Both of you look to me—both of you trust me—to deliver unbiased analysis of Bible software trends. And now my favorite underdog Bible software company is making it hard for me. I recently got the e-mail below, and I’m just not sure what to say about the partnership of BibleWorks and WORDsearch. It strikes me as too little, too late—and an unwarranted drift of focus away from BibleWorks’ strengths. Logos has cornered the market for a quality, beautiful,...
The Best BJU Chapel Message I Have Ever Heard
I have heard approximately 500 BJU chapel sermons in the last 10 years. Before that I heard about 100 each year for my four years of undergraduate training. I’m coming up on a thousand, and if you include Bible Conferences and two summer school sessions, I may be there already. I have become somewhat of a connoisseur of BJU chapel sermons. Until recently, the top spot—the Best BJU Chapel Message Ever—went to an elder at my church who preached an excellent sermon from Acts. But yesterday that...
Word Biblical Commentary $400
Get the entire Word Biblical Commentary and Reymond’s Systematic Theology (and a bunch of other stuff you probably already have) for $400 here. As I always say when reposting things from Rejoice Christian Software, don’t ask me how this guy gets these prices. The WBC is $700 at Logos. Don’t assume that you need all of these commentaries, but do some research at bestcommentaries.com and you’ll see a few specially valuable ones: Wenham on Genesis (2 vols.) Hartley on Leviticus perhaps Bush on...
