These are my official due dates for the dissertation. All are Fridays:

  • Defense Draft—March 11 (five copies, spiral bound) by 5 p.m.
  • Dissertation Defense—March 25, two weeks later.
  • Records Office Draft—April 1.
  • Registrar’s Draft—April 15.

I will need God’s grace to get through, and I’ve already seen a lot of that grace in the helpful reactions of my committee members. Helpful means that they are not one whit afraid to tell me when they think I’m out to lunch (and let me tell you, I’ve been eating a lot around noon lately), but that they are rooting for me to finish and finish well.

My work has never been scrutinized quite like this before; I value that scrutiny highly. Nearly every good book I look at thanks multiple sharp eyes for their input. I suppose that may be testimony to the mutual dependence God has designed within the body of the church.

Please, both of you, pray for me!

The New ESV Heirloom Single Column Personal Size Bible

A story in pictures. Because this new ESV Bible—the ESV Heirloom Single Column Personal Size Bible—needs only a one-word review: exquisite. Bloggers write words when none are needed, however, because the word-count of the internet is not yet full—so I will oblige with...

Have You Ever Doubted the Christian Faith?

Have You Ever Doubted the Christian Faith?

A young aspiring pastor recently asked other pastors in a Facebook group what kinds of doubts they’ve had about Christianity, and what they’ve done with those doubts. I replied… I went through a several-month period of doubt during my senior year as a Bible major at...
